Among other things, religious conflicts marked a boundary between two centuries and two millennia. An eleventh-century temple became a source of war tensions between Cambodia and Thailand, the Khmer and Tai peoples, while the centuries-long presence of colonial powers is still reflected in the perception of the national, and consequently cultural space and boundaries in Southeast Asia which persists due to inertia.
