Even in modern times, the villages in the arid regions of Burkina Faso subsist on minimal amounts of food and water. Significant resources of survival in periods of drought are the remains of food and water in plastic bottles, dumped by travellers along railroads. The anthropologically shaped portraits of elderly and young villagers reveal the former colonial history and contemporary existential challenges.
