The plot of this film takes place in a small mining town in Serbia, spanning the periods before, during and after the Second World War. Petrija’s Wreath is a story about a tragic life path of an illiterate rural woman and her life with three men she loved. Her life path, torn between reality and dream realm, a life of suffering, loneliness and disappointment, grows into indestructibility and a symbol of human person. The plot of the film was based on the motifs from the novel of the same name by Dragoslav Mihajlović.
Srđan Karanović (1945) studied film directing at FAMU in Prague. He was a professor of film directing at the Faculty of Dramatic Arts in Belgrade, and also taught film direction at universities in the USA. He directed television films and the series The unpicked strawberries. His feature films include Virgina, Something in Between, A Film With No Nameetc.
