Elahe returns to her hometown in Mashhad, Iran to assist her family's move to a new house after 40 years. Even though Elahe stopped wearing hijab many years ago, she still had to wear it when she was among her religious family. Influenced by the Woman Life Freedom movement, she has decided to stop wearing the hijab on all occasions, which is challenging for her deeply religious family's norms.
Elahe Esmaili is an award-winning documentary filmmaker. Her works include The Doll (Best International Short Hot Docs 2021) and Can I Hug You? (Sheffield Doc/Fest 2023) that were recognized by prestigious awards such as Critics Choice, IDA, SAA. Her work was presented in over 50 festivals and it reflects her prowess in storytelling and women's rights advocacy.
