Between 1980 and 2000, the revolutionary organisation Sendero Luminoso (Shining Path) and the armed forces of Peru fought a war that cost the lives of several dozen thousand people.

Sillaqasafollows three women from the rural community Quispillaqta (Ayacucho) whose husbands forcefully disappeared during the conflict. It is a part of the project Testimonies of the Political violence in Ayacucho, Peru (1980–2000), which deals with the oral histories of participants and observers.
