The film Signs of Life is a film about the search for the fate of long-abandoned hotels in Serbia, as we are guided by their former employees. Through the combination of visual and historical-narrative elements, we discover that strong signs of life are still hidden in the once full corridors and halls of the hotel. Their fate is a metaphor for the state in which our society finds itself. The film ends with the silence of the swelling signs of life and attempts to breathe, with the unspoken question - what next? Should we euthanize them, give them a coup de grace, shorten their suffering, or should we try to revive these “beings”, enable them to fulfill their purpose in life? By extending and renewing their lives, would we return at least part of what we lack so much today?

Marko Nikolić is a film and television director and animator. He directed a large number of short films, art and music videos, TV commercials, promotional films and TV shows. In his documentary work he focuses on deep emotional states, social and architectural heritage, with an optimistic view of the future.
