Invisible City is a composite of reflections (on that which is felt, seen and heard) from the city of Naples, Italy. The film combines observational sensory ethnography with commentary, archive footage and experimental effects to create a rich tapestry of observations and associations. Shot in June 2021, Invisible City navigates themes of the nature of materiality, representation, and performance, balancing these against the vivid symbolism that permeates the city. From religious statues to graffiti, oftentimes intersecting, the film is a praise to cultural images, their ability to demonstrate, as well as to obscure and subvert culture.

Federica Fusco is an Italian filmmaker, researcher, and performer whose work leans towards experimental, hybrid forms of cinema in which popular culture is put into dialogue with contemporary media forms.
