When the Devil Lived Around Usis a film about a magical perception of the world, traces of which are preserved in the memory of the film’s characters. In the past, nature was the world in the countryside. People explained nature as best they could. Devils, ghosts, demons, witches, wraiths, fantastic animals, strange creatures… They inhabited cornfields, roadside bushes and inaccessible swamps, they hid in forest thickets, in riverside reeds, in murky water of ponds. The film is a look at nature through the prism of colorful folklore, already fading into oblivion. Fields, meadows, forests and swamps turn out to be full of mysteries and fantastic creatures, often dangerous for people who have not followed the laws of nature or have underestimated its power.

Lukasz Debski was born in 1981. He lives in Lodz, Poland. He has been working as a filmmaker. He graduated at the University of Lodz and at the Film School in Lodz. He makes documentaries, nature and anthropological films.
