The village of Maće in the Ivanjica region abounds in high-quality slate suitable for shaping flat stone slabs. As such, they are ideal for covering housing and commercial buildings. They provide excellent protection against all weather conditions, and durability is measured in centuries. In spite of fast spread of modern technologies, this traditional architecture has managed to preserve its authenticity and sustainability. The knowledge and skills of extracting this stone in quarry pits, its processing and the method of covering buildings have been passed down from generation to generation and preserved to this day.
