In Serbian traditional culture, the day before Ivanjdan, as well as on the holiday itself, special attention was paid to Ivanjdan flowers from which wreaths were woven. They adorned houses, roofs, gates, beehives, dairies, barns and livestock buildings. For the sake of health, young women wore wreaths of Ivanjdan flowers. It is believed that in this magical way, the power of vegetation will be transferred to the health of crops and livestock. The custom in western Serbia has been preserved to this day and adapted to the needs of modern life.
Gordаna Pajić researches different segments of tangible and intangible culture. She is author of several thematic exhibitions, ethnological segments and two permanent exhibitions, as well as two ethnological films.
